Food for Life

Our School Nutrition Action Team

The Soil Association's Food for Life programme is all about transforming food culture. It is about making good food the easy choice for everyone. This means making healthy, tasty and sustainable meals the norm for all to enjoy. Pupils reconnect with where their food comes from, and teaches them how it’s grown and cooked. Food for Life champions the importance of well-sourced ingredients.
Gaining a Food for Life Schools Award is a great way to demonstrate that our school is doing a fantastic job with providing healthy school meals, great lunchtimes and food education. This all has a positive impact on both pupils and the wider community.
Last year were very proud to gain a bronze award. This year we are working towards the silver award. Once the current covid 19 restrictions have relaxed, we hope to invite parents in again to sample the delicious food served by our Food for Life approved catering company, Caterlink. Our chefs have significantly reduced the amount of sugar that goes into the children's school meals. The kitchen staff use fruit and vegetables to sweeten cakes and biscuits. All meat and vegetables are fresh and locally sourced and of a high quality.  

Our new vegetable garden proved to be a great success with lots of delicious produce harvested and taken home or cooked here at school. We hope that for 2020/21 it with be even better!

Year 2 were very excited with the produce from our veg garden on Friday. Due to the current restrictions, we were unable to hold a farmer's market stall for parents, so the children shared the veg out between them. I can't wait to hear about the meals they cooked!

We gave some of our home grown potatoes to the school chefs who produced a potato salad with garlic, herbs and green beans.
