Food for Life

Our School Nutrition Action Team

The Soil Association's Food for Life programme is all about transforming food culture.  It is about making good food the easy choice for everyone – making healthy, tasty and sustainable meals the norm for all to enjoy, reconnecting pupils with where their food comes from, teaching them how it’s grown and cooked, and championing the importance of well-sourced ingredients.


Gaining a Food for Life Schools Award is a great way to demonstrate that our school is doing a fantastic job with providing healthy school meals, great lunchtimes and food education that has a positive impact on both pupils and the wider community.


This year we are working towards gaining a bronze award.  At different times throughout the year, parents will be invited in to sample the delicious food served by our new Food for Life approved catering company, Caterlink.  Our chefs have significantly reduced the amount  of sugar that goes into the children's school meals, using fruit and vegetables to sweeten cakes and biscuits.  All meat and vegetables are fresh and locally sourced and of a high quality.


On  15th November we will be running a Healthy Eating day for KS2.  Each class will learn about the importance of a healthy diet and have to opportunity to make their own bread.  Parents will be invited in for a sharing assembly followed by a taster session to sample delicious cakes sweetened with courgettes, oranges and other healthier alternatives to sugar.
