This half term we will be working with decimals, (tenths, hundredths and thousandths); ordering, comparing, rounding and calculating with decimals. We will work on percentages; recognising the % symbol and recognising percentages as parts out of 100. Children will be taught to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages and will undertake reasoning and problem solving activities. In addition, we will be working on measuring, (length, mass and capacity) and on converting units, both metric and imperial measures, also units of time. Finally, we will complete some work on calculating with money using all four operations.
How you can help…
- Practise times tables to increase fluency; children should know all their times tables by the end of year 4. Those children who are not fluent with times tables will struggle as they move into year 6 as nearly all work in year 6 involves using times tables facts.
- Give you children opportunities to use money and receive change e.g. at the local shops
