Wednesday (Animation)

Today I'd like you to watch an animation.  The animation is called Catch A Lot and it is about a father and son who have very different feelings about going out to sea to try and catch a whale. 

1) Write a separate character description for the father and son which mention the weather.

For example, 'As lightening struck powerfully across the sky, the muscle-bound father triumphantly raised his spear....'

2) Write a persuasive letter from the son to his father asking him to agree to him pursuing a different career. 

3) Write a persuasive argument against whaling.

Try and include a range of sentence types: complex, compound, simple. After you have finished writing, label which types you have used within your writing.

Sentence Length TOP TIP:

A simple sentence uses just one clause, whereas a compound sentence uses two or more independent clauses.

A complex sentence features at least a single independent clause as well as at least one dependent clause. A group of words which feature no independent clauses might be an incomplete sentence - often called a sentence fragment.
