River of Knowledge
During the Spring term our topic is Saving the Planet, Defining the Future. We will begin by exploring the animals that can be adopted through the World Wildlife Fund, creating both collages and writing information texts about them. We will explore both environmental and industrial incidents and decisions that have impacted our earth and its future.
We will be focusing on recycling items during as many of our subjects as possible. In Art we will be using wrapping paper and Christmas cards to create collages, in Music we will be making instruments by junk modelling and in DT we will creating a waistcoat out of old clothes and accessories.

During the Autumn term, Year 5's topic was The World of War.
We looked at World War 1 and World War 2.
For World War 1 we looked at local history by reading some letters of a local man who joined up as a soldier. We used the class text of Private Peaceful to drive the rest of our research into this fascinating time period.
For World War 2 we were inspired by the storyline of Friend or Foe, as well as listening to and evaluating sections of The War Requiem. During computing we researched some of the major events of this conflict and for DT we will be investigated rationing. We tested a number of WW2 recipes and created a cookbook containing wartime recipes.
